the biggest takeaway for me is that constantly answering every single question as a CM doesn’t make you effective, it actually weakens the community. When you reply instantly to everything, people stop talking to each other. They wait for you. The Discord becomes a Q&A bot instead of a real community.
Strategic silence is the skill of knowing when to sit on your hands so that regulars can step up and answer. When done right, the community starts running itself even when you’re not online.
What hit me hardest is the long term effect: after months of doing this intentionally, you go from being the only person answering to having a group of knowledgeable members who own the space.
I’m going to start practicing this more consciously, especially on questions that aren’t urgent or crisis-related.
